Making the Best of the Zombie Apocalypse Cover Art Update

Streetlight Graphics continues to progress on the cover art for Making the Best of the Zombie Apocalypse -- here is early coloration:

Having creative control over the cover art for my books makes me extremely happy.  Norman Rockwell is no doubt spinning in his grave.

If you haven't already, please check out the chapter preview recently added for this upcoming book!

Updated: Making the Best of the Zombie Apocalypse

Making the Best of the Zombie Apocalypse is my second zombie book and is set in the same universe as Flesh Eaters (although it follows different characters).  It will be released at the end of the summer, but Chapter 1 in its entirety can now be found on the Making the Best of the Zombie Apocalypse page ----->

An Excerpt from Daydreams of Seppuku (release upcoming this summer)

There is something dwelling inside each of us -- something that is struggling, gnawing, frantically clawing to get out.
You could call this thing a soul, or the creative impulse, or perhaps just a need to be heard.
Whatever name you ascribe to it, for some, it produces no more than a faint tickle, an occasional fluttering beneath the surface.
But for others, this thing possesses the strength of a raging beast, so strong it is an entity unto itself -- a tangible creature, with teeth, talons, and unrelenting tenacity.  If it does not break free, its desperate flailing may rip us apart from within.

My Ongoing Pet Saga

Well, we just got back from the vet.
For the past few days, Indy has been trying to prevent Ester from receiving my husband's attention by nosing her in the rear end whenever Chris tries to pet her.  Today she got fed up, and a bitch slap fight ensued.
I have to admire Indy's restraint -- he will only fight with Ester on equal footing, so he bares his teeth but makes no attempt to bite (which is good, since he could easily kill her).  Instead, he smacks her with his front paws.  It's rather comical to watch the two of them running around frantically slapping each other -- except, of course, for the fact that Ester has razor-like claws, so Indy inevitably winds up with scratches.
Today, Ester scratched Indy's eye, so we had a fun unplanned excursion to the vet.  Indy seems happily oblivious of the abrasion, his eye is now comfortably lubricated with ointment and should heal without complication, and Ester retains her position as malevolent queen of the household.

Final Revised Flesh Eaters Print Cover

Revision of the print cover for Flesh Eaters is complete.  Woot!

More book covers in the works

I commissioned the cover for the next book in the series today.  It's also based upon a Norman Rockwell painting, and it's going to be awesome!

Making the Best of the Zombie Apocalypse will be the second book in my Zombie Era series.  Although not a true sequel, it will be set in and build upon the same universe as the one in Flesh Eaters.

Flesh Eaters Book Cover

I'm having the print cover of Flesh Eaters revised.  Still minor tweaks to have made, but I'm quite excited about how its evolving!

Thursday, May 3, 2012

I recently finished reading The Coffins of Little Hope, but I'm procrastinating updating What Are You Reading?  Eventually I will turn it into a big hodgepodge list of weird and awesome books.

Daydreams of Seppuku is finished (yippee), and I'm in the process of commissioning the cover.  This novel is far more "serious" than what I usually write, which makes me nervous.  Oh, well.  I'll throw it out there and close my eyes.
